Parents
have asked that we build some tools that will help reinforce
the lessons of Taekwondo at home, at school, and in the
community. With the help of Suzanne Brady, one
of our parents, we have begun our Star Student & Black
Belt Behavior's Program. Our whole premise
is that children want to do well, and will thrive with
encouragement, love and praise. We strongly believe
every student is a Star waiting
to be recognized!
Here is how Black Belt Behavior
Stars are awarded:
Step
1) For junior students enrolled at Neill's
Taekwondo & Fitness, we have copies of the "Black
Belt Behaviors" weekly work sheet. (You can pick
it up at the school, or print
one here.)
Step 2) Throughout the testing cycle (approximately
8 weeks) the student should evaluate themselves on how
they are doing. Bring the completed sheet to class
7 out of the 8 weeks and the student will earn a Red
Star to sew on his/her uniform.
Step
3) Stars will be awarded at the Belt
Testings and the students who are awarded stars will
have their photo posted on our web site as one of our "Star
Students".
Other Stars
in our Star Student Program:
In
addition there are three other Stars awarded for outstanding
performance at school, improvement in Taekwondo
class, and community service.
Adults
(parents, teachers, scout masters, etc.) are encouraged
to write notes to Master Neill as to why the student
should receive a star for academic achievement or community
service. Notes are due a week before testing.
(It
can be a great surprise for the student if they don't
know they are going to get the public recognition at
the Belt Testing!)
There
are four colors of stars:
Green
Star - Academic Achievement
Blue Star -
Participating in a Community Service
Gold Star -
Most improved in Taekwondo Class
